Pienza

Pienza

Unesco World Heritage Site

62km, 1hr 10 mins

Recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1996, Pienza’s reconstruction in 1459-1462 was commissioned by Pope Pius II.  Known as the ‘Ideal City of the Renaissance,’ it remains virtually unchanged today.

There are fantastic views of the Val d’Orcia from the southern city walls.  Artisan shops along the Corso Rossellino sell local honey and Pecorino (much milder than Pecorino Romano) of various flavours and textures.
